What is this standard about?

This is Part 3 in the European pressure vessels standards series. It deals with the design of unfired pressure vessels.

Who is this standard for?

Organizations who commission, design, build and maintain pressure vessels. This includes:

1. Mechanical engineers, Pressure vessels designers, Manufacturers and inspectors in :
   • Oil and gas
   • Petrochemicals
   • Process plant
   • Energy generation (including nuclear)

Why should you use this standard?

It specifies requirements for the design of unfired pressure vessels covered by BS EN 13445-1:2014 and constructed of steels in accordance with BS EN 13445-2:2014.

BS EN 13445-5:2014, Annex C, specifies requirements for the design of access and inspection openings, closing mechanisms and special locking elements.

Note that Part 3 applies to design of vessels before putting into service. It may be used for in service calculation or analysis subject to appropriate adjustment.

Also note that the BS EN 13445 series is invaluable to anyone needing to demonstrate compliance with the EU Directive for pressure equipment (PED).

What's changed since the last update?

• Annual updates have been made as part of the regular updating process in order to ensure the accuracy and usability of the series
• Specifically, this amendment introduces updates to Clause 15 on pressure vessels of rectangular section
