What is BS EN 50172:2004, BS 5266-8:2004?
This dual numbered standard sets out the requirements for emergency lighting in buildings – such as office and multi-storey buildings that are open to the public. It looks at the illumination of escape routes and safety signs if the normal supply fails. These standards specify the minimum requirements of emergency lighting based on the size, type and usage of the relevant premises. They also apply to standby lighting used as emergency escape lighting and gives practical guidance to make it more effective in an emergency.
