Revision to the ‘At Risk’ Procedure
This standard has been further amended to clarify the “At-Risk” turn off procedure. It now sets out, in order of priority, how appliance/installations classified as ‘At-Risk’ should be turned off, using the following order of-priority. Where it is not possible to achieve the first option, the next option should be considered etc:
1. Turn-off the appliance/pipework section isolation valve
2. Remove any electrical fuse serving the affected appliance
3. Turn-off the appliance control and affix a warning notice to the gas appliance control
Note: Turning off a room thermostat or clock/programmer is not acceptable
Other changes
Various table examples have been updated to add clarity; these include the inclusion of re-entry of combustion products in scenario 1.4 along with reference to the IGEM/G/11 supplement as it covers how to respond to reports of fumes and CO alarm activation.
Scenarios 4.10 and 7.6 have additional notes added covering ventilation of non-domestic meters and appliance CO2 combustion readings out of tolerance respectively.
The text in scenario 7.13 has been simplified and a new scenario, 4.10a, added to cover the actions required for unventilated meter banks/rooms containing multiple meters. This latter scenario has been added to raise awareness around meter bank ventilation within the industry.
The update of the standard also includes amendments to the following:
• Clarification of what to report under RIDDOR
• ID situations that are not reportable under RIDDOR
• When and how to report under RIDDOR
• How to report unsafe situations due to poor workmanship which arenot RIDDOR
• Reporting of theft of gas/meter tampering/interference of an LPG vessel
• Updates to the situation tables and associated notes
• Update to visual risk assessment of gas appliances.
The importance of IGEM/G11 Supplement 1
IGEM/G11 Supplement 1 aims to provide guidance to competent engineers when dealing with reports of CO alarm activation and/or reports of fumes after attendance by the Emergency Service Provider or the LPG supplier, who have made safe and deemed the property’s atmosphere safe.
